ITV Ident

ITV IDENT 1955 0.08-0.35 This is the first ITV ident that came out in 1955 when the ITV just launched. At first they were called the " Independent Television Authority" This is the first ITV ident that came out in 1955 when the ITV just launched. At first they were called the " Independent Television Authority" For this ident it was just a still image with a narrator narrating the channel thats on next and the channel the narrators representing. Then the red Diffusion logo appeared with a rotating sun. The design for this ident is quite plain and then in order to keep the attention of the audience you have a narrator. the tempo of the advert is very slow at the start and then the "Red Diffusion" logo is placed to create an identity for the channel. The location of the logo is placed in the centre because the centre of the screen is most likely where the audience are to look. the density on screen is quite close together in order to grab the audiences attention.

1977-01-01 00:00:00

Nickelodeon

In the 80s, Nickelodeon was known as Pinwheel. The duration was much longer than the ones today. E.g. more than 10 secs. This design may have been done for a purpose which was identifying. The pinwheel logo would have been very familiar in those days and would've wanted it to stand out because of the competition. This ident may be entertainment led rather than informative because it includes elements from the show e.g. the character. This is a way of branding for the channel.

1980-01-01 00:00:00

Nickeldoeon

The name of Pinwheel was changed to Nickelodeon. This is an example of re-branding. The reason why they did this is because they felt like they needed a new identity in order to unify itself with the other featured channels, Nick, Nicktoons, etc.

1983-01-01 00:00:00

Original Disney Channel - eunice

Disney Channel has been around, and has been broadcasting for over 30 years. This was the first ever ident that was made for Disney Channel in the early 1980's (1983 to be precise). Disney Channel brands an identity and in image for the channel. There is not much information on the screen, as it is a pretty basic ident, which includes the logo of Disney's Mickey Mouse. The primary colours of this ident is blue, black and silver/white. The purpose of this ident is to launch an identity to the specific target audience, which is small children and teenagers. The ident is only 10 seconds long because of the fact that young people have a short attention span, and as there are a lot more channels on, the idents have to stand out. It attracts the attention of the audience because it is one of the strongest representation of the channel.

1984-01-01 00:00:00

Nickelodeon

They then started 'utilizing a theme' with orange silhouettes. 'The splat' design which was then later designed in 2003

1990-01-01 00:00:00

Sky Sports

The first Ident of sky sports was made in the 1990s The purpose of this ident was to create a brand identitiy for their channel. Given that this is the first ident they were looking to create an identity for sky sports to indicate to a non visual audience that it is a sports Ident. Just like BBC, there is a circle around the logo which means that it must represent international sports. It was positioned in the centre and it takes up most of the space

1995-01-01 00:00:00

ITV Ident

This ident here is used to introduce the news this also is used for the audience to establish which programmer and channel is delivering the news.

1995-01-01 00:00:00

Bubbles - eunice

This ident of 1995 is only 10 seconds and is pretty basic but is just used to identify the channel. All of the disney channel idents include the logo, which is Mickey Mouse's head. This is quite popular because Mickey Mouse was the start of Disney Channel. From 1997-1999, Disney Channel had a season where their idents were blue and red.

2002-01-01 00:00:00

Sky Sports

They have decided to rebrand their channel in order to appeal to a masculine target audience. In comparison to the first one, there was no live action footage of any sports being played which didn't make it cleat that it was sports news. This change gave the channel a more dynamic and flavourful brand Identity.

2002-01-01 00:00:00

Disney Channel Original Movie - eunice

This ident was used very frequently when Disney Channel Original movies were about to show. There would usually be a voiceover before the ident finished stating what movie was coming up next. This ident is only 4 seconds which is very suitable for their target audience which is young children and teens. This is because their attention span is short which means that Disney have to design idents which are fast paced with bright colours.

2002-01-01 00:00:00

New story 1 - eunice

Disney Channel rebranded the channel in 2002, by changing the logo for the ident and also using humans instead of animated characters. However, Disney Channel they did not change the logo, which is still the head of Mickey Mouse. Disney Channel rely heavy on animation or CGI.

2003-01-01 00:00:00

Sky Sports

Segmentation was being used in these idents. Given that it is sky sports 1 now they are segmenting the sports into different channels there honeycombs being formed and there is a virtual stadium in combination with live action footage. The colours blue and white represent sports activities within the day. In my opinion the design clearly indicated daytime broadcasting.

2005-01-01 00:00:00

Nickelodeon

From 2005, they started using 'splat' bumpers which were much shorter dents than the older ones. The reason why the tempo had changed coming into the 2000s is because they targeted children, which meant that their attention spans are shorter. The use of the orange keeps them attracted and engaged because it is an eye-catching colour.

2008-01-01 00:00:00

Kyle Massey - eunice

In 2008, Disney Channel decided to use their characters from popular shows which were broadcasted from the channel, in the example above, Kyle Massey, who was an actor in That's So Raven and Corey in the House is presenting the channel. "I'm Kyle Massey from Corey in the House and you're watching Disney Channel". These idents were only on when a specific channel was to come on. For example, if Corey in the House was to come on, the ident above would be shown before the show was broadcasted.

2009-01-01 00:00:00

Nickelodeon

The nickelodeon idents now start to change their logo as well as the name and theme by shortening it to 'nick'. This benefits the screen tempo because the younger the audience, they might not be able to read 'nickelodeon', thus making it easier for them. This is an example if channel identity and interaction with the audience

2010-01-01 00:00:00

Sky Sports

Sky sports 1 has been rebranded and this time they did something interesting such as the colours in the background which associate with the logo and the live action footage in small rectangles. The spotlight in the bottom and top edges.

2012-01-01 00:00:00

Disney Channel 2012 - eunice

In 2012, Disney Channel decided to use the most popular characters from their shows, from 0:25-0:40, two idents are shown for the show A.N.T Farm, where there is a voiceover of the presenter presenting that the channel will be on next. As you can see in the example above, over the years, Disney Channel have relied more and more on computer animation to create these idents.

2014-01-01 00:00:00

Sky Sports

SKY SPORTS IDENT 2014 Purpose: The purpose of this ident is to create brand identity. The ident is telling the audience what channel they are watching and what type of content to expect from the channel. The fact that the sky sports logo is shown, within the ident, further reinforces this idea. Design: The tempo of the ident is very slow. This has been done to highlight the importance of the moment that is shown in the ident. A fan is celebrating a game-clinching goal. This is something that is very important in sports. The sky sports logo has been positioned in the middle of the screen, to grab the attention of the viewer. It has also been done to remind the audience of the channel they are watching. The Duration (Time) of the ident is 17 seconds. The ident is information-led, because there is a voice-over, telling the audience what they are currently watching. The ident creates interaction with the audience, by using the sky sports logo, which is recognisable to them.

2015-01-01 00:00:00

ITV Ident

This modern day ITV ident is just a short clip essentially and then the clip comes to and end and the ITV logo is revealed with a pull focus.

2015-01-01 00:00:00

Nickelodeon

From now, we find that the idents start to use their 'featured characters' as their ident. Each of the dents last 6 seconds.

2016-08-16 18:01:57

Nickelodeon

This is an example of segmentation as it features a seasonal change
