According to MM via court records, he tried to end the relationship prior to their Iceland trip, but was coerced by Laura Owens parents because she was threatening them with suicide. Lauras father, begged MM to stay in contact with her because her life was at risk and that he would help him get out of this relationship afterwards once she was safe.
