Founded in 1991, Bush Heritage Australia is an independent not-for-profit that buys and manages land, and also partners with Aboriginal people, to conserve our magnificent landscapes and our irreplaceable native species forever.

Fan Palm Reserve signals national ambitions
With the purchase of Fan Palm Reserve in Queensland, Bush Heritage took the first step to becoming a national organisation.

Protecting Koala habitat with Brogo Reserve
Brogo Reserve, New South Wales, was purchased after a donor approached Bush Heritage wanting to support the purchase of land that would protect Koala habitat - that was prescient!

Kojonup Reserve: a bush island in the wheatbelt
With Kojonup, Bush Heritage protected the last large remnant of Wandoo woodland in south-west Western Australia. The acquisition demonstrated the organisation's commitment to working closely with local community groups in reserve management.

Erith Island brings safety to the fore
Bush Heritage took on the lease of Tasmania's Erith Island, in Bass Strait, and began the significant task of clearing the island of weeds and feral animals.

Friendly Beaches Reserve: Freycinet's neighbour
The purchase of this stunning, 121 hectare reserve on Tasmania's east coast extended the protection of its famous neighbour, Freycinet National Park.

Protecting Currumbin Valley Reserve from development
Tucked into the hinterland of Queensland's bustling Gold Coast lies Currumbin Valley Reserve, a tiny patch of regenerating rainforest protected in 2000 from the frenzy of development around it.

A new Tasmanian national park
In 2000, the lease for Deal Island was handed back to the Tasmanian Government and, in 2002, Erith Island was handed back too (with many fewer weeds and ferals).

Carnarvon Station Reserve purchased
The acquisition of the 59,000 hectare Carnarvon Station, with its $1.5 million price tag, was a turning point for Bush Heritage and its first acquisition of this size and cost.

A landscape-scale partnership in the south west
Bush Heritage announced its involvement in the audacious Gondwana Link project in south-west Western Australia, the aim of which was to reconnect and recreate native habitats over a 1000 kilometre stretch of fragmented country.

Charles Darwin Reserve purchased
Charles Darwin is honoured by his great-great grandson Chris through the purchase of White Wells Station (to become Charles Darwin Reserve), on Badimaya country. The renaissance of a degraded West Australian pastoral property began.

Fencing feral pigs
The fencing program began at Carnarvon to protect the many small springs being destroyed by pigs and other ferals. The transformation was amazing and immediate. Life came back to the springs.

Revegetation of Chereninup begins
The first seeds were sown in cleared country on Chereninup Creek Reserve.

Ethabuka: a desert refuge

Reconnecting central Victoria
Since European settlement, Victoria has lost many of its woodlands to land clearance, but in 2004 Bush Heritage began working to reverse that trend with the purchase of the first part of Nardoo Hills Reserve, on Dja Dja Wurrung country.

Black Saturday and The Barnetts
Two Bush Heritage supporters, Jenny and John Barnett, tragically died in their Steels Creek home when it burnt during Victoria's Black Saturday bushfires. Their legacy gift helped Bush Heritage through the worst of the Global Financial Crisis and, in 2013, lead to the purchase of a new reserve named in their honour.
