Every Christmas Home Alone can be found on television screens across America. This Christmas comedy classic was first released to theaters in 1990 and brought in 400 million dollars to the box office. Home alone was ranked the 16th highest grossing movie of the 1990’s and is ranked the 40th highest grossing movie of all time. This movie is not only thought of as a classic here in the U.S. but internationally as well. Home Alone has aired on international television every year during the primetime Christmas season since its release in 1990. In 2011 the movie was aired in Poland on December 23rd and received an audience of over 5 million, which made it to be the most popular show during a Christmas season in Poland.

The Addams Family

This comical fantasy brought the most wonderfully disastrous family to the American household family! The Addams Family. A neighbor’s worst nightmare unless you’re into Halloween on steroids for EVERYDAY of the year. The early 1990s family was a great way to express how one unit can strive in the charge against the norm with how weird they were on a daily basis. Every episode nearly involved them either not noticing or simply not caring at the fact that they themselves were not adhering to the typical “norm” set standings in society during that time.

Aladdin

Aladdin is an all time Disney classic that hit big when it came out in 1992. Although it is known for it’s love story between Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, it’s also known for it funny moments with the Genie, played by Robin Williams. The reviews for the movie were of high ranking with an 8 out of 10 score from movie critics and scoring a 94% with Rotten Tomatoes. Robin Williams won a couple of awards due to his character Genie, which included the MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance and the Golden Globe special Achievement Award.

Groundhog Day is about a weatherman who is out to cover a story on Groundhog Day when he gets caught in a blizzard and gets trapped in a time warp that leaves him living the same day over and over again until he gets it right. This movie scored an 8.1 with critics and was ranked at 96% for Rotten Tomatoes. It was taken well by the audience is placed as one of the best movies in the 90’s. It won awards such as the BAFTA Award for Best Original Screen Play, the London Film Critics Circle Award for Screenwriter of the Year, and the British Comedy Award for Best Comedy Film.

This "Stoner Cult Classic" Is about the last day of school at a high school in a small town in Texas in 1976. The Seniors are hazing the new freshman, and everyone is just looking for a "good time". Unfortunately, this classic was a let down in the box office, only making a little over $7, 950,000 (budget $6.9 million).In 2003, Entertainment weekly ranked it #17 on the "Top 50 Cult Films", #3 "50 Best High School Movies", and #10 "Funniest Movies of the Past 25 Years". 2005, one of Matthew McConaughey's lines were nominated for AFI's "100 Years ...100 Movie" award. Tarantino included the film alongside classics like Taxi Driver; The Great Escape; The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly; and Carrie as one of his 12 all-time favorite movies, when asked by Sight & Sound Magazine in 2002 and 2012. It also opened the door for other movies. like The Big Lebowski and Half Baked, and actors like Matthew McConaughey, Milla Jovovich, Anthony Rapp, Ben Affleck, Parker Posey, and Renée Zellweger (an extra).

Forrest Gump is the 24th highest grossing film of all time and is the 6th highest grossing film of the 90’s bringing in over 600 million dollars to box offices around the world. The film starring Tom Hanks is hailed as a comedy classic and is responsible for many classic phrases that are still used today. Forrest Gump won a handful of awards the following year in 1995 including The Academy Award for Best Picture. Tom Hanks also took home both The Academy Award and The Golden Globe for best actor for his role in the film.

The continuous tease towards commercialism in our society is more than just subtle throughout the movie.
