I remember the pride we all had with the opening of The Milk Bank. As a maternity nurse and childbirth educator for Methodist Maternity Center and for IU North, our Director had been sharing with us this exciting news. I was so proud that the Methodist Health Foundation awarded such a large grant and later met with Janice O'Rourke the Executive Director to learn more about how we can stay involved to promote The Milk Bank to patients.
The Milk Bank, originally named The Indiana Mothers’ Milk Bank (IMB), opens with support from The Methodist Health Foundation. The first office was located at the Methodist Medical Plaza II on the West side of Indianapolis. The original mission was: To help save the lives of premature and ill infants in Indiana hospitals' neonatal intensive care units and to foster better health for Indiana's children and decrease healthcare expenditures in our state.
