On 25 April 1994, pro et con (program & conversion) is founded by four creative minds from Chemnitz University at the Technologie Centrum Chemnitz (TCC). The business concept is leveraging compiler technologies in software migration. As a result, software migration projects can be realised at a higher speed and lower cost than those of competitors.
The first reference customer has been found. Together with COSMOS Versicherung AG, a converter for the PL/I programming language to C++ is created. A series of PL/I programmes, which implement motor vehicle insurance contracts, are converted to C++ and transferred to production.
The Y2K problem proves to be a real test for our parser-based analysis tools. We have successfully solved the Y2K problem for renowned companies such as John Deere, Frankfurt Airport (since 2000 Fraport AG), Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and other high-profile customers.
The MANTED online platform and the HIT workflow system are launched and continuously developed. In 2019, MANTED records around 3.3 million visits of potential MAN customers per month. HIT/MANTED is a prime example of the MAN Truck & Bus SE digitalisation strategy.
pro et con becomes a recognised practice partner of the Berufsakademie Sachsen, University of Cooperative Education Glauchau. Since then, we have been proud to empower many of our current employees to complete a dual study programme in computer science and, upon successful completion, start a challenging and interesting job with us.
Germany's largest travel distribution system modernises its legacy IT basis with us. Centrepiece is the automatic conversion of several million lines of code from SPL (System Programming Language) to C/C++ using an SPL-to-C++ translator specifically developed for this project.
After 15 years in the Technologie Centrum Chemnitz (TCC), space becomes limited. pro et con leaves the TCC and moves into new, comfortable company premises of the attractive "Pegasus Center”, within close proximity to the Chemnitz university campus. In 2018, due to further growth, the company relocates again within the property.
In the SOAMIG research project (migration to service-orientated architectures), we cooperate with the universities of Koblenz-Landau and Oldenburg and the company Amadeus Germany GmbH. This results in our pecBOX (pro et con - Toolbox for Software Migration) as the basis for all future migration projects.
pro et con wins a tender of ITZBund (IT service provider of the federal government). An antiquated programme system for calculating tax on beer (BIBER) and spirits (ZEBRA) is converted from COBOL to Java using our pecBOX tools and maintained and further developed by us.
SüdLeasing GmbH and pro et con announce the successful completion of a complex migration project from COBOL to Java for managing leasing contracts. Using our technologies and tools, 4,027 programmes and copybooks including approx. 3.2 million lines of code have been successfully migrated within 1.5 years.
