Kayla Moore a Black, transgender woman in the Bay Area with schizophrenia and co-occurring substance use issues. She died as Berkeley Police Department officers restrained her based on another person's warrant.
On July 17, 2014, Eric Garner, a 43-year-old African American father of six, was put in an illegal chokehold by NYPD police officers. Pinned to the ground, Garner repeatedly said, "I can't breathe" in a video of the incident that sparked outrage across the country. Eventually, he lost consciousness and was pronounced dead at a hospital roughly an hour later.
Michael Brown was an unarmed 18-year-old fatally shot by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in 2014. Wilson fired a total of twelve bullets and Brown was struck six times.

Jason Van Dyke opened fire, shooting all 16 rounds of his pistol after 30 seconds at the scene, killing teenager Laquan McDonald. Van Dyke was released from prison on February 3rd, 2022 after serving less than half of his sentence.
