Giulio Giovannini and Roberto Moggio take part to Vasaloppet
Giulio Giovannini participates once more to Vasaloppet, this time with Nele Zorzi and Mario Cristofolini. Moggio follow the expedition from home. The four friends have the idea of creating Marcialonga. The first staff includes: Franco Nones, Arrigo Delladio, Giulio Vanzetta, Tino Morandini, Giorgio Fontana, Italo Craffonara, Toni Camerano. The President of the Organizing Committee is Giorgio Grigolli (President of the Region). Moggio is the General Secretary.
A contest is launched to choose the name of the event: "Marcialonga" is chosen (the long march). In September a twinning with Mora, the town of Vasaloppet, is sealed.
It is not clear where the race will take place, but Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa are the homeland of big cross-country skiing champions: Nones, Deflorian, Chiocchetti Delladio, so it feels like a natural choice.
