Emily & James Sibley Watson and James G. Averell left New York on November 26th on the S.S. Fulda.
After a rough Atlantic crossing, the S.S. Fulda enjoyed sunshine as they passed the Azores.
The Fulda stopped in Gibraltar on its way to Genoa.
From Genoa, the Watson-Averell party traveled to Monte Carlo, Nice, Cannes before meeting Mr. & Mrs. Perkins in Marseilles.
At Marseilles, the Watsons, the Perkins & J. G. Averell took the steamer Sidney for Alexandria.
The travelers stayed longer in Alexandria than originally expected, while Emily Sibley Watson recovered from her shipboard miscarriage.
The Nile journey began with the New Year.
By January 13th, the Sesostris had made slow progress, being towed against a steady wind.
The Sesostris was stuck on a sand bar about 70 miles south of Cairo for 2 weeks.
The Sesostris party shared Valentine's Day poems as they traveled upstream.
The Sesostris reached Aswan on February 18th, 1893.
Drifting downstream, the Sesostris party added a huntsman to the crew so that the men could disembark and go hunting.
On their way downstream, the travelers visited Edfu, Luxor, and the Valley of Kings.
After passing Girzeh, the Sesostris was caught in a simoom.
The Watsons arrived in Cairo on March 23rd, and spent several days sight-seeing before embarking on their return journey.
