7th Annual Mackid Symposium
This was the first Mackid Symposium that expanded into a two day event. This was the first time the Mackid Lecture was held in conjunction with the Alberta Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The topic was Current Problems in Obstetrics and Gynecology with guest speakers Dr. Walter Hannah, Toronto and Dr. L. Donahue, Seattle.

Topic: Rehabilitation of the Neuromusculosketal Disabed - Medial and Social Guest Speaker - Dr. Gustav Gingras This program was innovative due to the development of a "Learning Resource Centre" which had available audio-visual displays and resource personnel from various disciplines such as the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; Nursing Service Department and the Medical Social Service Department.

Dr. Michael Tarrant
The Alberta Recording and Research Network (TARRANT) is established. TARRANT enlists family doctors in reporting on influenza-like illness among their patients. Named in honour of Dr. Michael Tarrant, who in 2005 posthumously is named one of the 100 Alberta Physicians of the Century.

UC Faculty of Medicine partners with Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal to establish a general practice specialist program in Nepal. During their 3-year program, Nepalese doctors divide their time between Alberta and Nepal. This CIDA funded program is coordinated by Dr. Mel Kerr.
