Calgary General Welcomes its first GP Specialist Candidates for training in August 1966
At the request of Dr. Mackid, whose practice in Calgary was so closely involved with the CPR and trauma, the first Mackid Lecture was titled "Multiple Trauma"
The topic for the 2nd Annual Mackid Symposium was "Medical and Surgical Emergencies in the Newborn. Guest speaker Dr. W.A. Silverman, Columbia University
Dr. Donald Rice, Executive Director of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, declares the Calgary family medicine residency is "not just a little local expriment. This is an international movement, really."
Dr McQuitty joins UCDFM in 1969
The 3rd Annual Mackid Symposium was held with invited guest speaker Dr. M.M. Hoffman, McGill University. Dr. Hoffman spoke on Recent Advances in Internal Medicine
Dr. JB Corley is presented an Award from the Calgary General Hospital, U of Calgary and the College of Family Physicians after pioneering the first 3 years of the new Family Medicine Program.

The 4th Annual Mackid Symposium focused on Drug Abuse and Alcoholism with guest speaker Dr. R.G. Bell, President, Donwood Foundation, Toronto.
Internship programs at the Calgary General and Holy Cross Hospitals were surveyed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
UC establishes its Department of Family Medicine and accepts first class of medical students.
Dr. A.J. Elliott, University of British Columbia spoke on The Eye on General Medicine.
The Family Medicine Residency Program established at Foothills Hospital with the first group of residents commencing July, 1971
Dr. Loran F. Piling, Minneapolis, Minnesota spoke on Problems in Social Psychiatry.
The first on-site survey by the College of Family Physicians of Canada surveyed the programs at Calgary General and Foothills Hopsitals.
Dr Gibson serves as head of the Department from 1972-1978
This was the first Mackid Symposium that expanded into a two day event. This was the first time the Mackid Lecture was held in conjunction with the Alberta Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The topic was Current Problems in Obstetrics and Gynecology with guest speakers Dr. Walter Hannah, Toronto and Dr. L. Donahue, Seattle.

The 10th Annual Mackid Topic: Emergency Care Guest Speaker, Dr. W.R. Ghent, Hotel-Dieu Hospital and Queen's University, Kingston, ON Symposium had the best attendance to date and the lecture "The Law and the Emergency Department" was the most popular session.
76-77 Residents
Dr. Les Cunning establishes a family practice in Black Diamond, AB. He is later honoured with the UC Faculty of Medicine's first Alumnus of Distinction Award in 2007.
77-78 Residents
Topic: Rehabilitation of the Neuromusculosketal Disabed - Medial and Social Guest Speaker - Dr. Gustav Gingras This program was innovative due to the development of a "Learning Resource Centre" which had available audio-visual displays and resource personnel from various disciplines such as the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; Nursing Service Department and the Medical Social Service Department.
Dr George DH McQuitty serves as Department Head from 1978-1979.
The topic for the 12th Annual Mackid Symposium was Laboratory Medicine Today. Guest speakers: Dr. Leo P. Cawley, Wesley Medical Centre, Wichita Kansas; and Dr. R.A. Perrault, National Director of the Blood Transfusion Service of the Canadian Red Cross
78-79 Residents
The New Pediatrics with Professor R.J. Haggerty, Harvard School of Public Health and Children's Hospital Medical Centre, Boston. The Mackid Lecture was on Social Support, Stress and Illness.
79-80 Residents
The Alberta Recording and Research Network (TARRANT) is established. TARRANT enlists family doctors in reporting on influenza-like illness among their patients. Named in honour of Dr. Michael Tarrant, who in 2005 posthumously is named one of the 100 Alberta Physicians of the Century.
Dr. George McQuitty passes suddenly on Christmas Day, 1979. He is remembered fondly in the Foothill Hospital - Footprints publication.
Dr Saunders serves as Department Head from 1980-1981
Theme for the 14th Annual Mackid Symposium was Medicine and the Law. Dr. Glenn Sawyer, Ontario Physician and Lawyer spoke on "Preventative Legal Medicine"
80-81 Residents
The former 'Division of Family Practice' becomes 'Department of Family Practice'.

Special Aspects of Multiple Trauma was the theme of the 15th Annual Mackid. The Mackid Lecture was given by Dr. Robert Francis Wilson, Professor of Surgery, Wayne State University, Detroit on "Pathophysiology of Shock"
81-82 Family Residents..
The theme was The Knee: Trauma and Sports Injury Guest speakers were Dr. Robert W. Jackson, Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, University of Toronto and Dr. Cy Frank, Alberta Heritage Research Fellow, University of California, San Diego.
Department of Family Practice officially becomes the 'Department of Family Medicine.'

UC Faculty of Medicine partners with Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal to establish a general practice specialist program in Nepal. During their 3-year program, Nepalese doctors divide their time between Alberta and Nepal. This CIDA funded program is coordinated by Dr. Mel Kerr.
"Babies, Bugs and Bladders" in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Donald R. Ostergard, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Long Beach, CA spoke in Laser Therapy in Gynecology
