From the beginning of Amestris to the Promised Day, this timeline recounts the story of the Fullmetal Alchemist in as much detail as possible.
Xing is founded.
Slave 23 (Van Hohenheim) is born.
Using Slave 23's blood, a Homunculus (The Dwarf in the Flask) is born from the Gate of Truth.
Upon being given the name 'Van Hohenheim', the man formerly known as Slave 23 officially becomes an Alchemist.
The Dwarf in the Flask begins instructing King Xerxes on how to achieve immortality. Work on a Nationwide Transmutation Circle begins.
The Nationwide Transmutation Circle around Xerxes is activated. Hohenheim and the Dwarf in the Flask become living Philosopher’s Stones as the population of Xerxes (1,072,658) is divided among them.
Hohenheim awakens and is informed of the situation by Homunculus. Both Philosopher’s Stones depart from Xerxes, in opposite directions.
Hohenheim is rescued by Xingese inhabitants who restore him to health.
Hohenheim begins teaching Alkahestry to the people of Xing.
Homunculus founds Amestris.
Having taught the Amestrians alchemy, as a precaution to prevent it from being used against him, Homunculus creates a lair below what will eventually become Central Command, using himself as a buffer against tectonic energy.
Amestris and Riviere enter a civil war.
Pride is brought to life by Homunculus, now calling himself ‘Father’.
The civil war of Cameron begins.
Lust is bought to life by Father.
Greed is bought to life by Father.
The Armstrong Family begins serving Amestris.
Envy is bought to life by Father.
Sloth is bought to life by Father.
Sloth begins digging out the Nationwide Transmutation Circle.
Amestris and Fiske enter a civil war.
Father tries to create his own Portal of Truth and instead, Gluttony is created. Father sends Gluttony to the ruins of Xerxes to consume the Transmutation Circle inscriptions within the castle.
Amestris and Wellesley enter a civil war.
Greed defects from the Homunculi. He eventually ends up in Dublith.
Amestris fights the First Southern Border Conflict with Aerugo.
Fuhrer Candidate #12 is born.
Berthold Hawkeye is born.
Hohenheim and Pinako meet for the first time.
Urey Rockbell is born.
Wrath is bought to life by Father through the body of Fuhrer Candidate #12. Wrath then begins assuming the alias 'Fuhrer King Bradley'.
Trisha Elric is born.
Izumi Harnet is born.
An uprising occurs in Pendleton.
Roy Mustang is born.
Maes Hughes is born.
Riza Hawkeye is born.
Jean Havoc is born.
Hohenheim and Trisha Elric meet and eventually begin living together.
Izumi survives for one month atop Fort Briggs.
Izumi and Sig Curtis marry and move to Dublith.
Rose Thomas is born.
Urey Rockbell and Sara marry.
Izumi attempts Human Transmutation to revive her unborn child. She fails and loses some of her interior vital organs.
Edward Elric is born.
Winry Rockbell is born.
Lin Yao is born.
Alphonse Elric is born.
Envy masquerades as an Amestris soldier operating in Ishval and murders a young child. Almost immediately, uprisings begin in Ishval, triggering the start of the Ishval civil war.
May Chang is born.
Roy Mustang and Maes Hughes meet at the military academy.
