Ten people arrive on an inflatable boat and entered the city through Machhimaar Colony, Badhwar Park near Cuffe Parade, South Mumbai.
Abu Shoheb and Abu Omair take a taxi and place a bomb in the Leopold Cafe at Colaba Causeway in South Mumbai.
Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan take a taxi to Victoria Terminus (VT), also known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), in South Mumbai and placed a bomb in it.
Abu Aqsa and Abu Umar head towards their target – Chabad House also known as Nariman House in Colaba, South Mumbai.
Fahad Ullah and Abadul Reheman Chhota leave for Trident Oberoi Hotel near Nariman Point in South Mumbai.
The third pair of terrorists – Hafiz Arshad and Javed – board a taxi to reach the Taj hotel in South Mumbai.
Abu Soheb and Abu Omair storm into the Leopold Cafe and throw grenades before opening fire, killing 11 people.
Hafiz Arshad and Javed enter the Taj Hotel from the main entrance. Abu Soheb and Abu Omair join through the north gate.
Ismail Khan and Ajmal Kasab enter the CST/VT station on a busy Wednesday evening.
Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan open fire on an unassuming crowd. The Railway Police try to fight the onslaught of the AK–47's with their rifles.
Hafiz Arshad and Javed open fire in the lobby of the Taj Heritage Hotel.
Fahad Ullah and Abadul Reheman reach Trident Oberoi after killing 11 people in Leopold Cafe, and proceed to kill 35 people and injuring 24 others at the hotel.
Hafiz Arshad, Javed, Abu Soheb, and Abu Omair enter room 551 while looking for hostages. In the next few minutes, the four acquire hostages and move them to room 632.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vishwas Nangre Patil, reaches the Taj with six policemen. The terrorists start moving upstairs by this time.
Kasab and Khan exit CST and reach nearby Cama Hospital on foot. On their way in, they kill four people – two guards and two civilians.
Javed, Hafiz Arshad, Abu Shoheb, and Abu Omair reach the sixth floor by this time, starting a deadly fire.
At Cama hospital Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan kill 16 people and injure 17.
Following a fierce gun-battle with the police, Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan run out of Cama Hosiptal and hunt for an escape vehicle.
Outside Cama, near the Badruddin Tayabji Marg, Kasab and Ismail intercept a police van and killed everyone in the van, including ATS Chief Hemant Karkare, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashok Kamte, and Encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar, along with two guards. The two then steal the police van and head towards Metro Cinema Junction.
Abu Aqsa and Abu Umar plant RDX at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh petrol pump, before rushing to Nariman House or Chabad House.
The two terrorists fire at the media and bystanders near the metro junction, approximately 500 metres from Cama hospital, killing two people and injuring several others.
Due to punctures in the police jeep tires, the two hijack another vehicle in their bid to escape – a civilian's Skoda Laura this time.
Nariman House or Chabad House is attacked by Aqsa and Umar, after they blow up a petrol pump. They attack staff and take hostages.
Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan drive the Skoda to a police check-point in Girgaum. The police open fire at them, killing Ismail Khan and injuring Ajmal Kasab. In retaliatory fire, Constable Tukaram Omble is killed.
While Nariman House was showered with bullets of Aqsa and Umar, Fahad Ullah and Reheman set the upper floors of Trident Oberoi ablaze.
Elite Marcos, Indian Navy Commandos, and Indian Army units reach Mumbai. They are to rescue people from the Taj and Trident hotels.
By 3 am, the two terrorists had managed to set the place under the dome on fire. Explosions were heard from inside the hotel.
The National Security Guard rescue people from the Taj and Trident Oberoi through the intermediate night of 26-27 November 2008.
Sandra Sammuel, two-year-old Moshe'le Holtzberg's nanny, gives a slip to Abu Aqsa and Aby Umar, saving both their lives. Moshe'le's parents – Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg (29) and his wife Rivka (28) – do not escape the terrorist duo.
With knowledge of the number of gunmen, 50 Black Cat Commandos reach the 21st floor of Trident Oberoi, to find six dead bodies.
The people inside Trident Oberoi and Taj hotels refuse to believe the military men and refuse to open the room doors.
As the security personnel faced difficulty in the rescue operation, another massive fire brakes out at the Taj as Hafiz Arshad, Javed, Abu Shoheb, and Abu Omair continue their terror. Around 400 people escape from the two hotels by this time.
Massive flames erupt from the Trident Oberoi hotel's 18th floor as Fahad Ullah and Abadul Reheman set curtains and other inflammables on fire.
Day two of the attacks and the National Security Guards (NSG) were ready for another long night of battle.
As the second morning arrived, Abu Aqsa and Abu Umar, turn restless and call their leaders, suspected to be in Pakistan. The leaders ask them to kill all the hostages at the Chabad House; and they open fire on the hostages.
Over 150 people are rescued from the Trident Oberoi hotel as Fahad Ullah and Abadul Reheman are trapped on the 18th floor.
The Nariman House was liberated after commandos were air-dropped in addition to the one already in the hotel.
Of the ten terrorists who had landed in Mumbai, only Mohammed Ajmal Mohammad Amir Kasab is alive as the morning of November 29, 2008 dawns on the city. Besides the nine terrorists, 166 people lost their lives while 238 were injured.
Hafiz Arshaad, Javed, Abu Shoheb, and Abu Omair are killed by the security forces after an intense gunfire exchange.
