Rebels Advance

Rebels backed by Rwanda and Uganda advance into Kinshasa and rise against president Kabila and take over The Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Death of the President

President Laurent Kabila is shot dead by a bodyguard. Son Joseph Kabila takes over as president.

Rebel forces capture a major army base.

Countries Launch Assault
