Atari 2600
The Atari 2600 is released. Little did anyone know Atari were about to dominate the market. Due to the fore coming success, Atari would brng out superior models and was rivaled by no one until a new super popular system was released.

Bally Astrocade is released by Midway Entertainment. However competing against the Atari 2600 see the Bally Astrocade fail and it is taken off the market.

Fourth Generation Gaming Consoles
This generation paved the platforms for gaming consoles of the future with the SEGA Megadrive and Super Nintendo (arguably the best ever console of its time) are released and dominate the market.

Sega Megadrive/Genesis
The Sega Megadrive/Genesis si released in 1988. Overtakes the NES briefly before Nintendo release their Super Nintendo two years later.

Super Nintendo Released
World wide phenomenon, the Super Nintendo System is released, only to be rivaled by the Sega Megadrive II. Nintendo control the market for this whole generation.

Sega Master System II is released and does really well, introduction to SEGA's best ever seller "Sonic The Hedgehog" is released also which immediately does well in the market.

Sega Megadrive II
The Sega release an updated version of the Megadrive I. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is released and sells 7 million copies world wide only to be beaten by Sonic the Hedgehog & Knuckles years later. The Megadrive does well in this era and looks to be a two horse race in the market with Nintendo and Sega.

Sega Saturn
After so much success with the Sega Master System and Megadrives, big things were expected of the Sega Saturn. The Saturn did not compete well with its opposition directly being the Sony Playstation. The Saturn was ultimately not an overly big success. Sega however planed big things for on their next project that would be due out in the year 1998.

Virtual Boy - Nintendo
After so much success with the Super Nintendo big things were expected of the Virtual Boy, all of which failed. It was on the market for a year and was not released in all regions. Nintendo made up for it the following year with the console that would dominate the market for the next 5 plus years.

Apple Pippin
Apple (before they were a super giant) try their hand at a gaming console. against the Super Nintendo and the coming PlayStation and Nintendo 64. It crashes out of the market.

Sony Playstaion
Sony release their first ever gaming system. Games are on CD-ROM and it is popular across the market. Sony slam the competition of other CD-ROM based consoles such as the SEGA Saturn and Apple's failed Pippin. Sony would come second to Nintendo. Nintendo releasing a console 2 years later that would change the market.

Atari Jaguar
Atari release their new system - Jaguar. Up against the Playstation, Super Nintendo and the Sega Saturn it does not do to well in the market, it is taken off the shelves some years later even with its 64-bit graphics.

Nintendo 64
For the last two decades Nintendo owned the console of the decade. The Nintendo 64 was Nintendo's greatest console to date with the most numbers being sold. Nintendo dominated these last two decades, but coming into the new century, new innovative products will be made to take away from Nintendo's dominance.

Sixth Generation Consoles
The Sixth generation was kicked off from SEGA with their Dreamcast Console, it however failed to keep up with the Demand of the ever so popular PS2 and Microsoft's induction to gaming consoles with the XBox. Nintendo would come third this generation next to Sony and Microsoft.

SEGA Dreamcast
The final console brought out by SEGA. The Dreamcast had better graphics than both the Playstation and N64 however due to lack of gaming titles and not being appealing to the younger generation, the Dreamcast fell to third place behind N64 and the PS2.

PSOne
The PSOne is released. The PSOne is a sleeker smaller design and able to play all playstation games. The PSOne sold more consoles in the year 2000 than any other consoles, it was only over taken by it successor - the Playstation 2. The PSOne also had a combo pack with a 5" LCD screen to play elsewhere if there was no TV.

Playstation 2
Sony made a big splash with the induction of the PS2. Sony's sales sky rocketed and pushed them past Nintendo, finally. With better graphics, game play and variety of new games the PS2 was the new best system to have.
