Every year, the American Library Association Office for Intellectual Freedom highlights challenges to library materials and free speech by celebrating Banned Books Week. They have also put together a timeline about banned books using Tiki-Toki.
For each year since Banned Books Week was first held 30-odd years ago, the timeline showcases a book that people have tried to have banned from schools or local libraries.
It includes a summary of why the book has been challenged, and some background about the book. The content of the timeline is well worth exploring, and provides a fascinating look at why some books can cause controversy.
As always, if you have created or know of a timeline that should be featured in future, get in touch with us at blog@tiki-toki.com.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy exploring the timeline!
